Director, Environmental Standards
$87,600.00 - $114,100.00 annually


The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy is responsible for the protection, management and conservation of B.C.’s water, land, air and living resources. The Ministry mitigates and manages the risks and consequences from climate change, including developing plans to set and meet carbon pollution reduction targets.

The Environmental Protection Division works to protect the human and environmental health of the province. Through the administration of the Environmental Management Act and the Integrated Pest Management Act and their regulations, the Environmental Standards Branch develops pollution prevention legislation, codes, regulations, standards and policies and is responsible for a wide array of environmental regulatory and non-regulatory programs in the following specialty areas: hazardous and industrial waste management; integrated pest management; municipal liquid and solid waste management; provincial air quality; and, extended producer responsibility programs.

The Director Environmental Standards leads the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of a range of legislation, regulation, policies and programs across a variety of specialty areas [listed above]. The position provides leadership to a team of policy and technical specialist in one of four sections within the Environmental Standards Branch. The Director provides advice to senior government and ministry officials, manages financial and people resources and strives to inspire and achieve leadership excellence.

Qualifications for this role include:

•University degree in a field related to environmental management, environmental science, business/public administration or acceptable equivalent.
•Experience [5 years] in a senior operational management capacity in the public sector or industry including, but not limited to:

o Business and organizational planning accountabilities;
o Developing and improving legislation, regulation and public policy;
o Leading teams and managing programs;
o Providing advice to senior level government and ministry officials; and,
o Leading inter-ministry and external consultations.

•Experience dealing with politically sensitive and provincially significant issues.
•Experience [5 years] in the development and implementation of legislation, regulation, policies and best management practices.
•Experience [2 years] in management of multi-disciplinary staff.
•Experience leading and coaching teams.
Salary$87,600.00 - $114,100.00 Annually
