Indigenous Student Success Counsellor Sunshine Coast School District No. 46 welcomes applications from enthusiastic and dynamic educators to fill the following position: Job Posting Number: T1920-111 EXT Position: Counsellor F.T.E.: 0.857 F.T.E. Effective Dates: September 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020 The assignment is Indigenous Student Success Counsellor, effective September 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020. The schedule will be determined by the principal and will match the intent and framework of the program and the schedules of the schools assigned. The position works with students, parents and the Indigenous community in all secondary school settings as well as in partnership with other services for Indigenous Peoples under the direct supervision of the District Principal of Indigenous Programs and Services, in collaboration with school staff and administration and Indigenous Education Support Program staff. The successful candidate will: -have completed, or be actively working towards, a master's degree in counselling psychology or a related field such as educational psychology, developmental psychology, social work, special education or Indigenous counselling; -have proven and thorough understanding of Indigenous Peoples' history, culture and contemporary lifeways/issues through considerable and demonstrable life experience and coursework in Indigenous Education and/or First Nations Studies; -have extensive knowledge of secondary school courses/programs, course selection processes, course change processes, and other aspects of secondary school academic counselling, including new curriculum, student record management systems and associated technology; and -have knowledge of work experience programs, secondary school apprenticeship programs, post-secondary school and First Nations Employment Society programs and services, and other transition services available for Aboriginal students/youth transitioning to further learning and/or the workplace. | |
