The City of Coquitlam is currently recruiting for 2 Pool & Building Service Workers who will be responsible for manual work involving janitorial, custodial and minor building maintenance work performed on an assigned shift in an aquatic facility. An employee of a position in this class performs a variety of janitorial and routine maintenance duties relating to swimming pools and aquatic buildings and equipment. In addition, a Pool and Building Service Worker carries out pool filtration and vacuuming duties as required. Duties are performed in accordance with established practices and procedures, but a Pool and Building Service Worker exercises considerable independence of action and initiative in the performance of routine duties on a day-to-day basis, referring complex or unusual problems to a superior who reviews work performance in terms of technical adequacy, conformance to established practices and procedures, and adherence to time schedules.

Our next Pool and Building Service Workers will have considerable knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in janitorial and custodial work as well as considerable knowledge of the operating principles and procedures of water heating, boiling, filtration and chlorination equipment, and the methods, practices and materials used in the operation of indoor and outdoor swimming pools. The successful candidates will have working knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems applicable to the operation of the swimming pools and other park facilities, working knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in building maintenance work and have the ability to operate, maintain and make minor repairs to equipment typically used in indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Additionally, the Pool and Building Service Workers will have the ability to prepare and maintain records related to the work, is able to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, patrons and user groups and has skill in the use of and care of a variety of tools and equipment used in the work.

Applicants will have completed grade 10 supplemented by related janitorial and technical training; sound experience in the operation and maintenance of water heating, filtration, pumps, boilers and chlorination equipment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

While work may take place in various City facilities including outdoor pools & spray parks.

A CUPE hourly rate of $24.24-$28.48 along with a competitive benefits package and an earned day off program. Applicants under consideration will be required to consent to a Police Information Check. Please upload a recent driver’s abstract (within the last 30 days) with your application.
