School District No. 87 (Stikine) serves students and families on the unceded territories and ancestral lands of the Kaska, the Taku River Tlingit and Tahltan peoples.

Director of Curriculum and Instruction

School District 87, Stikine, seeks a collaborative, experienced and progressive leader to serve as Director of Instruction and Curriculum. Reporting to the Superintendent of Schools, the Director of Instruction will join an energetic leadership team that is committed to improving student success by providing opportunities for them to excel as learners in an environment that celebrates Indigenous heritage, creates a sense of belonging, and supports their capacity to be leaders in their communities and beyond. The work of the District is guided by the newly adopted Strategic Plan and the 3Nations Agreement.

The Stikine region is characterized by rugged natural beauty, and there are many places to explore in the Tahltan territory around Dease Lake, where the Board Office is located. School District 87, Stikine, is the perfect place for the adventurer or outdoor enthusiast.

The Director of Curriculum and Instruction, will provide leadership, mentoring, in-service, and support to school staffs; have responsibility for curriculum development and implementation; and oversee special education, equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives, as well as early learning. The Director of Curriculum and Instruction must be committed to meaningful engagement with staff, students, education partners and Indigenous communities. Specific candidate qualifications include:

- Possession of, or eligibility for, BC teaching certification;
- Completion of a Master's degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction preferred;
- Evidence of a thorough understanding of, and experience with, Indigenous culture, history, and contemporary issues facing Indigenous people.
- Evidence of successful and broad-based experience in K-12 school-based or district leadership roles,
- An in-depth understanding of inclusionary practices and the delivery of educational services to students with special learning needs;

The successful candidate for this position will demonstrate the following skills, knowledge and qualities:

- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills;
- Current knowledge of BC Ministry of Education curriculum, assessments, and related initiatives;
- Successful experience with improving outcomes for First Nations' learners
- Demonstrated capacity for supporting school staff in effective ways to meet diverse learning needs and styles
- Knowledgeable about, and preferably experienced with, Trauma Informed Practice as a means of supporting students;
- Experience in implementing and supporting effective social/emotional and mental health well-being initiatives;
- Experience and expertise in the school improvement process including data analysis, goal setting, action-plan development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation;
- Experience planning, facilitating and delivering in-class mentoring, training, support and in-service to staff in the classroom, school and district settings;
