The opportunity
Reporting to the Vice President, Sustainability, Communications and Policy, the Director Sustainability and Policy is accountable to develop and execute on the sustainability and policy strategy of the company across North America.

 

Leading a team of managers, this role will work closely with senior leaders in the company to ensure the corporate strategy for Sustainability meets the needs of the company, it’s business units and functions. The Director, Sustainability and Policy will work closely with business units, corporate functions and internal stakeholders to ensure the enterprise strategy supports the business unit and functions own needs while contributing to a broader corporate mandate of the Board of Directors.  

 

What you'll do

  • Lead a team to develop and implement an integrated Sustainability strategy to support the successful delivery of the TC Energy strategy and business goals.
  • Lead the development of the corporate Public Policy strategy to help influence TC Energy’s policy environment and execute on business priorities
  • Lead the creation of corporate Sustainability metrics in support of TC Energy’s Sustainability commitments 
  • Collaborate with Communications in the development of a communications and advocacy strategy that amplify the sustainability and policy work within the company, targeting key external stakeholders and successfully meeting the needs of the company
  • Manage, coordinate and communicate on sustainability and reporting activities aligned with established frameworks (e.g. GRI, TCFD, SASB)
  • Develop and execute the Community Workforce Giving strategy to maximize value to the business, while advancing the corporate sustainability goals
  • Lead the creation of the materials for the Health, Safety, Sustainability and Environment Committee of the Board to ensure alignment with Board objectives and the timely and accurate reporting of company commitments
  • Lead, mentor and continue to build a high performing team to deliver effective, timely and financially responsible decisions to meet the needs of internal and external stakeholders

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Sustainability, Social Sciences or Environmental Science
  • A minimum of 15 years of progressively senior experience in leading a Sustainability function within the Energy, Natural Resources, Transportation or Utility sector
  • Significant understanding of the needs of external stakeholders, financial, regulatory and special interest groups around ESGs and Sustainability
  • Proven data analytics skills and the ability to interpret data and make recommendations that have enterprise-wide impacts
  • Demonstrated alignment with TC Energy’s values of Safety, Integrity, Responsibility and Collaboration
  • Possesses an unquestioned reputation premised upon demonstrated integrity, ethics and personal values
  • Superior oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on tact and diplomacy.  Ability to understand various stakeholders and constituencies; internal and external to the organization
  • Ability to work well under pressure having strong organizational, analytical and decision-making skills
  • Results-oriented with strong identification and initiation of continuous improvement opportunities and the ability to manage change

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • A strategic senior level leader who is a natural collaborator with demonstrated relationship building to meet the requirements of stakeholders
  • Extensive understanding of the ESG and Sustainability frameworks and reporting requirements   
  • A post graduate degree in business (e.g. MBA), Environmental Science or Sustainability would be an asset
