Description
CBC Radio is hiring a Producer to work for Network Talk, assigned to a half hour weekly Network Radio Business Show, The Cost of Living, located in Calgary.

This contract position runs until July 1st, 2020 with the possibility that it becomes a permanent position.

Our show examines the business of everyday life. Almost every decision you make pulls a thread that ties you to the larger economy. The Cost of Living will follow those threads — in both directions. We show Canada how an economic trend ripples into your life and also explain everyday mysteries.

Your role

Working under the direction and supervision of the Senior Producer, the successful candidate will be a proven senior journalist with exceptional critical thinking skills and attention to detail. Strong knowledge of, or interest in, business and economic reporting is essential. They will demonstrate an understanding of the mandate of the program. They will be able to identify what constitutes stories, treatments and guests for the program. They will be a strong writer, chase producer, and audio editor, with an ear for creative sound design and use of music. They will have strong social media and digital skills. The successful candidate should be comfortable performing on-air work from time to time.

The successful candidate will have a track record of successfully mentoring and supervising the work of others on their team, and will have a proven ability to step into more senior roles as needed. They will have exceptional vetting skills, and a demonstrated ability to produce exceptional radio.

Along with their editorial skills, communication skills, and exceptional creativity, the successful candidate will be a committed team player. They will have a proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Education RequirementsUniversity degree or equivalent.
Essential SkillsRecognized excellence in chasing, writing scripts and editing. Strong contributor of ideas, stories and treatments.
Proven track record of ensuring a diversity of voices is reflected in storytelling. Contributes to the diversity of perspectives on the team.
High level of organization and productivity.
Strong and enthusiastic team player with good communication skills. Initiative taker, with ability to be productive in individual and team settings.
