The opportunity

The Liquids Pipelines, Commercial Services department is responsible for providing commercial services for the business unit’s in-service assets in North America, including the following functions:  scheduling, volumetric accounting, rates, contracts and analysis, markets/supply and competitive analysis.

Given this responsibility, the Director of the 30+ team members must be agile, strategic, innovative and able to manage objectives focused on maximizing the commercial value of the business unit’s operating assets and supporting its strategic growth initiatives. 

Reporting to the Vice-President, Commercial, Liquids Pipelines, the Director, Commercial Services will be an integral member the Liquids Commercial Leadership Team.

The successful individual must demonstrate strong leadership and strategic thinking and views the challenges and opportunities in the portfolio as one of their key deliverables to the client groups and to TC Energy Executive and Senior Leadership.

 

What you’ll do

  • Provide strategic leadership to a team of skilled managers with emphasis on developing robust strategic alignment with client groups in the business unit
  • Drive and support the overarching business strategy
  • Manage and support the business unit in pursuing commercial and business development projects through thorough understanding and application of commercial and regulatory compatibility/feasibility and North American market knowledge
  • Lead the optimization of scheduling and volumetric accounting teams and provide scheduling and operational accounting input to new ventures as well as bringing new projects into service
  • Provide strategic market/supply, pricing and competitive analysis for ongoing operations, scenario analysis and to support development of the business unit’s strategic plan
  • Execute on contract and regulatory compliance requirements, drawing on extensive knowledge of liquids pipelines commercial regulatory environments, specifically the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), National Energy Board (NEB) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)
  • Advance the understanding, application and enforcement of commercial contracts and associated commitments schedules

 

Minimum qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree in commerce, accounting, finance or related discipline is required, preference for an MBA, Masters degree or other professional designation would be an asset
  • A minimum of 10 years’ progressive experience in leadership roles
  • Demonstrated success in contributing to business results with strong business acumen
  • Drive and identify improvement opportunities with initiative and courage to implement the improvements

 

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with energy infrastructure including regulatory experience
  • Strong financial background and experience with pipeline volumetric accounting and scheduling
  • Extensive liquids pipelines industry and market/supply and North American pipeline infrastructure knowledge
  • Solid understanding of commercial regulatory environment in North America and compliance requirements
