Duties: * Provides electrical and/or mechanical system building design, commissioning, project management, monitoring, analysis consultancy and troubleshooting services and assistance to large commercial and industrial customers in the areas of design assistance, building performance, performance contracting, quality lighting services, power quality solutions and other product offerings. * Discusses and determines customer needs; prepares, contracts out or reviews designs, layouts, equipment and or project requirements and specifications using various modelling software tools; prepares and presents project details, costs, budgets and schedules for customer approval; oversees and provides project management and contract administration over approved projects to ensure design and installation work occurs on time, within project budgets and to customer and BC Hydro expectations and energy savings targets; follows up to resolve problems and/or escalate major problems to management; authorized payments and/or changes to original contract specifications. * Conducts technical reviews, research and analysis on existing and proposed product/service specifications and standards for various types and sizes of electro technologies, control systems, appliances and equipment to verify energy savings, claims, suitability, reliability and to ensure higher efficiency standards are adopted; prepares and/or presents reports of findings and recommendations; participates in encouraging various levels of government to adopt energy efficiency building codes and standards. * Oversees, monitors and represents BC Hydro on technical committees on Canadian Electrical Association (CEA) and other research projects conducted by consultants such as: determining project approach and objectives, parameters, scope, cost and other requirements; setting priorities and reporting requirements; reviewing in-progress and final reports for technical acceptability and quality. * Prepares Power Smart building guidelines and criteria on BC Hydro's new building projects, renovations or expansions; provides expert advice on building envelope, controls, heating, air-conditioning, lighting and electrical systems and evaluations of building materials and components to BC Hydro district offices on their own buildings. * Provides technical sales representative functions, advice and guidance to support Sales, Marketing and program development and delivery staff on a variety of electrical and building technologies. * Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job Qualifications: * Building engineering, design and construction, structures and design, illumination, applied physics for buildings, calculus and analytical techniques, mathematical methods/computing for buildings, building surveying, project management, planning, design, contractual and management processes, building codes and specifications, advanced lighting, heating, ventilating, mechanical systems, operations management, business and report writing, training and delivery techniques, oral and presentation communications, PC and related Common Desktop and relevant application software knowledge are typical acquired through completion of a Building Engineering Technology Diploma program or equivalent, registration with the Electrical Safety Branch plus BC Hydro in-house CDS courses, email, internet browsers and other relevant software. * A minimum of 4 years practical experience in the energy management field with well developed and demonstrated working knowledge and experience in electrical, building engineering design, mechanical, heating, ventilation and air conditioning or lighting systems industry in a design or construction capacity with a working knowledge of current building codes, technologies, practices etc, Satisfactory performance on this job requires approximately 2 years to acquire the additional knowledge/skills to perform the full scope of the job. Well developed oral, written, and interpersonal skills. Additional Information This position is affiliated with the Movement of United Professionals union (MoveUP/COPE). http://moveuptogether.ca The following experience will be considered an asset: * Completion of Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma program or equivalent, preferably in the Electrical Power option. Eligibility for registration with the ASTTBC. Eligibility for registration with the BC Safety Authority as a Field Safety Representative. Possession of a BC Certificate of Qualification or Red Seal journeyperson electrician's ticket. * Experience working with 3-phase electrical systems up to 600V in an industrial and commercial environment. Familiarity with low voltage electrical power distribution systems, motor control centres, motor starters and variable frequency drives. Knowledge of 3-phase electrical power theory. Knowledge of test, measurement and analytical instrumentation and metering systems for electrical, mechanical parameters and other utilities (e.g. steam, water). * The Measurement & Verification (M&V) department is responsible for quantifying electrical energy impacts for customer projects receiving BC Hydro incentive funds. The quantification of energy impacts can involve engineering calculations, physical measurements, analysis of BC Hydro electricity bills and computer modeling. * The candidate will assist professional engineers and technologists in liaising with customers to obtain facility specific field data to enable project energy impact analysis by data analysts. In addition, the candidate will install metering equipment and instrumentation in the field to measure energy consumption of end-use systems such as fans, pumps, air compressors, HVAC, refrigeration to measure the energy, materials conveyancing, etc. and driver variables that have an impact on energy consumption. * The position involves working in the field approximately 50% of the time. The remainder of the time would be in an office type environment. The position will involve field work primarily in industrial and manufacturing facilities outside of the Lower Mainland and large retail, commercial and institutional facilities within the Lower Mainland. * The field work can be challenging as it involves working in industrial plants such as pulp & paper mills, saw mills, mining plants. Plant conditions can be noisy, foul-smelling and dirty. The field work is physically demanding: * Carrying, lifting and transporting field measurement and safety equipment * Standing for long periods of time on hard concrete surfaces or steel grating * Climbing stairs, ladders and scaffolding * Working in harsh weather conditions in remote locations in the province * Driving for long periods of time during the day or evening to remote field locations in varied weather conditions * Overnight stays for several days in out of town locations * Working outside of traditional office hours sometimes requiring overtime hours * Working on or near exposed energized 600V electrical power circuits installing temporary portable power measurement equipment. a. When working on or near exposed energized equipment the candidate will always be accompanied by a qualified electrical worker b. Safety is paramount and safety training, procedures and personal protection equipment is provided. * Class 5 Driver's License is required. * Please note that testing will be part of the selection process. * BC Hydro employees will be required to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated effective November 22, 2021 Please be advised that this role has been assessed as safety sensitive and pre-qualification alcohol and drug testing will be required as a pre-condition to employment. | |
