As Director of Labour Relations, reporting to the Associate Superintendent of Employee Services, you will provide district leadership, strategic advice, and support to district management to optimize sound and responsible labour relations practices for the district. You will bring your expert knowledge and broad labour relations experience in multi-union public-sector environments to this role leading all aspects of labour relations, including leading the bargaining teams for all collective agreements, and administering labour relations procedures.

You will share your deep labour relations experience and knowledge by providing advice and leadership on all aspects of labour relations issues, including collective agreement application/ interpretation, employee discipline, investigations, grievances, mediation, and arbitrations. You will ensure consistent district labour relations practice by developing and implementing relevant and engaging labour relations training programs for district management and stakeholders. As Director of Labour Relations, you will be the key resource and trusted advisor to both internal and external stakeholders on a variety of labour relations issues. Furthermore, you will represent the district on labour relations matters competently and with confidence.

You are a dedicated and committed leader who brings exemplary interpersonal skills, experience leading bargaining and arbitrations, and a reputation for building trust and respectful relationships in diverse teams and settings. You can establish and maintain positive and productive relationships throughout the district and understand how the contributions of the employee groups, administrators, district leadership teams, and Trustees support the learners in the district. You are a natural communicator with strong business writing skills, who conveys your message concisely and respectfully, keeping senior management appropriately informed of significant issues. Your refined problem-solving skills allow you to suggest thoughtful solutions to complex issues.

In addition to your more than 10 years of labour relations experience in a multi-union, public education or public sector setting, you bring relevant post-secondary education. You hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business Administration, Public Administration, Industrial Relations), as well as a professional designation (e.g., CPHR, LLP,etc). A relevant master’s degree is an asset.
