PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Specialist Operations Analysis role exists to drive sustained improvements in operations performance and efficiency. The successful candidate will develop analyses for data mining, will be responsible for process review and dialogue with stakeholders, and identify performance issues and their root cause(s). This individual will also be responsible for facilitating the development and implementation of solutions to address gaps or opportunities. They will ensure solutions developed and implemented are reflected in future performance (and targets) through development of monitoring processes or tools.

 

 POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Lead the development, improvement and publication of the operations scorecards (e.g. Terminal Scorecard or TSC) including developing and managing requirements through the IS team and ensuring quality, accuracy and completeness of the information published;
  • Ensure the information is correctly understood and utilized to drive improvements on the key scorecard measures;
  • Perform statistical analysis of operating metrics & KPIs to identify areas which are under-performing and make recommendations for actions to improve performance;
  • Collaborate across the organization to ensure processes are understood, properly defined and communicated and adhered to by those executing / managing the processes;
  • Develop and implement a framework to evaluate performance in near-real time and to identify issues and actions required to resolve the issues and improve performance;
  • Work with other members of the Operations analysis team to draw on insights or analytics developed across the team and apply to own projects as appropriate.

 

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • University degree in Business, Engineering or Mathematics preferred;
  • 1-5 years experience in Transportation – preferably rail transportation;
  • Skilled in the use of MS Office suite of applications;
  • Familiar with SQL, C# or other programming languages (e.g. R, Python);
  • Versed in the visual display of quantitative information.
