Working closely with the General Manager of Information Technology Operations, this role is accountable for leading the operations, support, maintenance, and improvement of the enterprise application portfolio for the entire enterprise.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Provide leadership and direction to a global application support and operations organization to provide outstanding application performance, support experience, subject matter expertise, and advanced thought leadership for a modern enterprise application portfolio in support of global operations for 18000 Suncor personnel and contractors
  • Oversee the effective management and development of support teams comprised of a mix of internal, outsourced and contract staff to ensure that Suncor standards, service levels, performance expectations, and user experience are met and exceeded
  • Manage the effective transition to operations of new enterprise applications and services, ensuring support knowledge, support capacity, system monitoring and automation are in place, and that service levels are established and agreed, and planned maintenance activities for the new application or service have been defined
  • Coordinate the improvement of enterprise application platforms in support of business priorities and business strategy through the utilization of dedicated enhancement teams, enhancement factories, and product teams
  • Develop and implement strategies to monitor, analyze and continuously improve the operational applications support, operations, and service delivery
  • Develop enterprise application proficiency and capacity to service application operation requirements of product teams
  • In conjunction with enterprise architecture and key stakeholders, develop and sustain technical roadmaps and asset lifecycle plans for enterprise applications
  • Budget development and cost centre financial stewardship
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with key partners within diverse teams across the organization, and strategic vendors

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • 15 years of IT Operations and IT Project Execution experience is essential, including a minimum of seven years as a direct leader to large teams, and success accelerating migration of applications and services to the cloud
  • A Computer Science degree, or Technical College diploma
  • Good technical knowledge of SAP, Enterprise Content Management Systems, Database systems and technology, Middleware, API Platforms, and Custom Data Interfaces
  • Broad knowledge of IT operations technologies and services including enterprise data warehouse and reporting, Cloud Services (IAAS, PAAS, SAAS), Infrastructure Services, Robotic Process Automation, application enhancements, and DevOps
  • Experience supporting integrated project teams, including Agile and Waterfall methods of work
  • Strong vendor performance management skills
  • Strong conflict identification and resolution skills and the demonstrable ability to lead and develop large teams
  • Experience developing and tightly stewarding to a budget for a large enterprise applications portfolio
  • The proven ability to work effectively with various sizes of highly focused and geographically dispersed teams

Preference for:

  • ITIL Foundation certification
  • Oil & Gas industry experience

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, and you will be on call 24/7 to support critical enterprise applications and ensure service level commitments are achieved
  • Occasional travel on an infrequent basis to our domestic and international locations will be required
