We are hiring a full time, permanent Senior Analyst, Capital Assets position working out of Edmonton, AB.

 

The Senior Analyst, Capital Assets is accountable for providing assistance with all aspects of capital assets reporting, including the maintenance of sub-ledgers for both capital assets and capital projects, and support of the capital budget, forecast and regulatory filing processes.  This includes achieving accurate and timely reporting of capital assets information, for both IFRS, US GAAP, and regulatory reporting.

 

This position may be eligible for EPCOR's hybrid work program.

What you'd be responsible for

  • Provide input to the Manager, Capital Assets plans and directions, and ensure on-going appropriate relationships with other positions
  • Ensure the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics. Accurate and timely reporting of capital assets information to meet business unit and Corporate Finance requirements
  • Maintenance of Oracle Fixed Assets, including capitalization of projects and depreciation of fixed assets
  • Provide capital assets information to support annual budget, forecasts, long-term plan and regulatory applications as required
  • Provide monthly reporting on capital expenditures to support Operations, Management and Corporate Finance, including variance explanations to budget and forecast
  • Produce monthly account reconciliations and prepare quarterly collaborative reporting for Corporate Finance
  • Develop a good working relationship with NACS Operations management and operational staff in support of accurate project and fixed asset accounting
  • Provide guidance on accounting treatment of capital related items under Canadian and US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and regulatory filings. Monitoring project costs to ensure only costs eligible for capitalization under IFRS and US GAAP are recorded in the financial records.
  • Support continuous improvement in the area of Capital Assets through identifying areas and ideas for improvement and carrying out continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintenance of high quality internal controls including adherence to CSOX requirements
  • Work with each distinct area within NACS to develop and implement standardized capital processes that align with the Capital Investment Policy. Develop consistent monthly and quarterly financial reporting of capital across the various areas, with a focus on capital forecasting and appropriate governance.
  • Support as required the due diligence for business development initiatives and the integration of new businesses/operations developed or acquired by North American Commercial Services
  • Perform other duties and special projects as required

What's required to be successful

  • Degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting is required
  • Accredited accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, and CGA) is required
  • Minimum of 4 years of directly related and progressively responsible professional accounting experience. Previous capital assets experience will be considered an asset.
  • Understanding and demonstrated experience in Oracle financial system and related support systems, specifically Oracle Fixed Assets, Oracle Projects and General Ledger, Business Intelligence and Adaptive Insights, will be considered an asset
  • Understanding of EPCOR financial processes will be considered an asset, including a demonstrated knowledge of accounts payable and receiving processes, as well as prior experience in month end capital assets reporting
  • A good understanding of current IFRS accounting guidance and policies, with a focus on capital assets
  • Proficient use of Excel applications for financial analysis
  • Demonstrated capability to apply and monitor adherence to EPCOR financial policies and procedures, as well as GAAP, IFRS and regulatory practices
  • Demonstrated capability to apply the relevant knowledge and technical skills to meet reporting requirements and to support Oracle Fixed Assets system

Wage: Starting at $50.95 per hour (Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and is based on a combination of factors as outlined in the Collective Agreement).

Hours of work: 75 hours biweekly
