We are hiring a full-time, temporary Senior Project Manager, Distribution position working out of Edmonton, AB.

The Senior Project Manager, Distribution is accountable for overseeing and successfully completing the large complex, multi-year Distribution project for the City of Edmonton Transmission Reinforcement ("CETR") Project. The position will be responsible for ensuring project budgets are accurate and complete, overseeing distribution engineering deliverables, developing and maintaining project schedules, and obtaining required approvals from internal and external stakeholders and governing bodies. The Senior Project Manager, Distribution assigns scopes of work to internal and external resources based on project priorities and deadlines; monitors, controls and reports on project progress and costs on an ongoing basis in accordance with corporate and EDTI requirements, and interacts with crews, sponsors, and engineering to proactively identify and resolve issues and obstacles to ensure the distribution portion of the CETR project is executed in a safe, disciplined and efficient manner.

 

What you'd be responsible for

 

  • Developing comprehensive project charters for the scope of the CETR project.
  • Ensuring budget and resource estimates are accurate given available data; assumptions, and constraints are documented, and the scope and estimate methodology are clearly outlined for project reporting and variance analysis.
  • Reporting to project sponsors and key stakeholders on project performance (budget, schedule, and scope) through duration of project or program.
  • Ensuring the delivery of complete, accurate, on-time, and constructible work order packages by setting IFC target dates, arranging design walk-throughs, leading design and construction meetings, and completing thorough reviews of package.
  • Working collaboratively with other Project Managers, Foreman, and Schedulers to compare project completion dates against resource availability.
  • Communicating schedules and scopes of work to internal field and contractor resource groups, ensuring coordination between groups and conducting regular performance reviews.
  • Ensuring adequate qualifications, cost minimization, and proper contractor management practices are exercised, and compliance with EDTI procurement, regulatory, HSE, and legal requirements.
  • Leading project kick-off meetings for all large-scale, high-profile, complex projects.
  • Ensure project requirements, schedules, performance and any site specific safety and environmental requirements or restrictions are proactively managed and clearly communicated to all parties.
  • Monitoring projects by maintaining open communication channels, and conducting site visits to document progress, identify, and manage risks and issues.
  • Conducting routine safety inspections on projects sites documenting any deficiencies and assigning appropriate corrective actions.
  • Meeting performance metrics by facilitating project planning meetings to evaluate work progress; providing guidance on project priority; and creating and maintaining an executable distribution portfolio plan, as well as, monthly project metrics reports.

 

What's required to be successful

 

  • Professional Engineering Degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering.
    • Professional Licensee (PL) in Civil or Electrical Engineering with extensive experience in trades, construction or project management will be considered.
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is desired. 
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in electrical distribution systems, including direct design or construction experience in Aerial and Underground Distribution systems.
  • Experience in the design and construction of on-site Capital Engineering projects.
  • Experience in project management of complex utility construction projects with increasing responsibility.
  • Experience in planning and executing new initiatives.
  • In-depth knowledge of Aerial and Underground Distribution system construction methods, procedures, work practices and techniques.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Customer Connection Guide and EDTI's Terms and Conditions for Connection and Access Service.
  • High proficiency with computer software such as Microsoft Office, Ivara, and other work Management tools such as MS Project.
  • Ability to understand and manage complex budgets and schedules relative to this area of responsibility.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a larger management team within a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to develop, nurture and manage customer relationships.
  • Ability to communicate technical or complex issues in a clear and concise way.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
