Highlights of the job      

       

We are hiring a full-time, permanent Operator 2 position working out of Evan Thomas Wastewater Treatment Plant at Kananaskis, AB.

Reporting to the Lead Hand Operator, Evan Thomas Operations, and the Operator II is boots on the ground and safely runs the day-to-day operations of the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants as well as the distribution and collection systems and lab while meeting all internal and external reporting requirements and quality standards.      

       

What you'd be responsible for      

       

  • Operating and troubleshooting water treatment and wastewater treatment plants and distribution and collection systems.
  • Supporting maintenance staff and performing routine maintenance tasks such as lubricating, completing operational adjustments, and cleaning equipment; flushing and cleaning of mains; and maintaining daily logs.
  • Monitoring and meeting internal quality standards.
  • Collecting samples and data for monthly, regulatory, and operational reporting.
  • Generating and analyzing reports (i.e. monthly/annual reports, safety reports, and financial reports).
  • Developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Reading and updating record system drawings.  
  • Monitoring or facilitating processes and making the necessary adjustments to optimize water quality, quantity, and reliability.
  • Performing laboratory sampling and adjusting process controls to determine chemical feeds, detention times, and hydraulic loading for plant operation.  
  • Fulfilling requirements for the facilities' Alberta Environment Approval and Alberta Infrastructure contract terms.
  • Managing the treatment and disposal of sludge.
  • Safely managing external contractors and following all required internal and external regulations.
  • Ensuring working procedures are performed in compliance with EPCOR safety standards, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 standards.
  • Participating in internal and external compliance audits.

       

What's required to be successful      

       

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum Level 2 Certification in Distribution and Wastewater Collection is required.
  • Strengths in water distribution and wastewater collection systems will be considered an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License (with 6 demerits or less). A Driver Abstract will be required.
  • You will need to be located in communities within 1 hour of the Evan Thomas Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants in Kananaskis. This includes Canmore, Cochrane, West Calgary or surrounding areas.
  • Previously demonstrated leadership skills leading other operators will be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using asset management software like IVARA, SCADA control systems, database software such as HACH Wims will be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft outlook, excel, power point and power bi will be considered an asset.
  • Ability to withstand strenuous physical activity inherent to the work performed, as well as to function effectively outside under a variety of weather conditions and through all seasons.  
    • Please note that due to the nature of this position you will be required to wear a ½ mask respirator.

Jurisdiction: OSH      

Hours of work      

  • Working hours of 8 hour shifts from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays, weekends and holidays is required.  
  • Standard shift rotation is 5 days x 8 hour shifts per week. Shifts may change depending on plant needs.
  • 24 hour on-call shifts in rotation will be required once the accepted candidate has sufficient plant experience.
  • Overtime maybe required depending on process events which occur.
