We are hiring one full time, permanent Power Lineman 3 position working out of Edmonton, AB. This positions reports to the Manager, Aerial and Underground Transmission Trades.

As the Power Lineman 3 in EPCOR's Aerial Transmission team in Electricity Operations, you will install, maintain and repair the Aerial Transmission and Distribution system. You will be accountable for coaching, leading and working with trades and non-trades personnel engaged in constructing, maintaining and repairing Distribution & Transmission (D&T) power lines and electrical equipment up to and including 500 KV. You are a strong team player and take pride in the work that you do.

What you'd be responsible for

  • Using your technical expertise to provide input to the Manager, Aerial and Underground Transmission on the team's plans and directions.
  • Ensuring the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics. This includes, timely reporting of all incidents and safety concerns through the Event Reporting System (ERS), providing higher level technical expertise, assisting colleagues to resolve problems, keeping the Power Lineman 4 informed of task progress and work performance, making recommendations for improvement to the work, and working as a team to ensure success.
  • Climbing transmission towers and working in a bucket at heights in excess of 100' for prolonged durations.
  • Safely setting up and executing aerial transmission work in an urban setting. This includes reading and interpreting OSCAM permits and re-routing traffic to ensure a safe work zone.
  • Inspecting Transmission infrastructure from the ground or the air.
  • Switching on energized electrical apparatus and system automation components.
  • Supporting contractors to complete several maintenance programs including but not limited to tower painting and vegetation management.
  • Working on energized aerial systems (120-25,000 volts) using rubber gloves and other live line techniques.
  • Responding to emergency conditions and environmental hazards.
  • Performing various administrative functions such as report writing, as built information, Ivara comments and timesheets.
  • Mentoring and training new employees or apprentices.

What's required to be successful

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent level of secondary education.
  • Powerline Technician Journeyman Certificate.
  • 3+ years directly related experience at a Journeyman level is required.
  • Valid Class 3 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License, with 6 or fewer demerits.
  • Familiar with Occupational Health & Safety regulations and will be required to obtain a working knowledge of related provincial safety legislation and city bylaws.
  • Thorough working knowledge of protective grounding, climbing poles with belt and spurs, aerial bucket/hydraulic equipment, tension stringing devices, and electrical safe work practices.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and schematics (hard copy and electronic).
  • Computer skills and a proficiency using software such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.
  • Demonstrated interest and ability to coach, lead and empower others and work effectively in a team.
  • Proven attention to detail and technical expertise.
  • Preference will be given to candidates that have:
  • A valid Class 1 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License
  • Experience working on the energized Aerial Distribution transmission systems
  • Experience operating a 135' manlift
  • Experience operating up to a 15K telehandler ( zoom boom)
  • Formal training in high angle rescue or rope rescue from transmission structures
  • Knowledge of EPCOR work practices, policies and procedures, OH&S, AEUC, EPCOR Safety Manual, etc.
