We are hiring a full time, permanent Senior Engineer, Data Governance & Planning position working out of Edmonton, AB.
 
 
As the Senior Engineer, Data Governance & Planning, you will own and define the information system vision for situational awareness in EPCOR's Electricity Operations. You will collaborate with teams across the business unit and our Corporate IT group to help develop and implement the GIS, Asset Management, mobile workforce management and Data Analytics roadmaps, and establish processes to execute situational awareness initiatives while safeguarding the overall system integrity and data quality.
 
 
In this position, you will require a strong business and technical understanding of the electric system operation and of the utility industry at large. In addition, a high level understanding of IT practices and technology will be an asset, as will the ability to advise, influence and build productive working relationships with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
 
 
This position may be eligible for EPCOR's hybrid work program. 
 
 
 
What you'd be responsible for
 
  • Developing the GIS, Asset Management, Mobile Workforce Management and Data Analytics roadmaps (5 to 10 years planning horizon) to implement the Situational Awareness architecture and Connected Data Modelling across Electricity Operations.
  • Leading the development, implementation and review of Situational Awareness processes to ensure compliance to policies, standards, regulatory requirements and the mitigation of risks.
  • Soliciting internal input on information needs and identifying new technology solutions, processes and best practices that address those needs and build upon existing systems within EPCOR for optimal long term plans and investments.
  • Working with internal departments to develop and deliver business cases for approval, and providing input to the annual Business System Planning and budgeting processes.
  • Designing policies and processes to ensure data integrity and accuracy and for sharing technical utility data to external entities.
  • Identifying opportunities for EPCOR to share with and/or access data from external parties, in alignment with our business plans and objectives.
  • Managing all contracts and agreements between EPCOR Electricity Operations and external parties related to data access/sharing.
  • Establishing and monitoring the data catalogue, including proper procedures for creating, preparing, using, storing, archiving and deleting data.
  • Engaging with internal engineering and operations groups to steward centralization, enhancement, and governance of connected power asset data models and integration with business systems and processes to fully leverage opportunities for automation and advanced data-driven applications.
  • Establishing and chairing the Electricity Operations' Data Governance Committee.
  • Authenticating engineering deliverables, such as annual reliability reports, system test scripts and various models, as per APEGA guidelines.
  • Providing specialized technical advice and mentoring junior engineers.
 
 
 
What's required to be successful
 
  • Professional Engineer or Professional Licensee or with specialization in Electrical or Computer Engineering registered with APEGA.  
  • 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in electric utilities in an engineering capacity.
  • Experience in Geographic Information Systems or Power system engineering preferred.
  • Training in Change Management, Project Management, Lean Six Sigma process improvement or statistical analysis and predicative analytics.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance, data modeling, application integration and system planning.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Experience creating and delivering presentations to senior leadership.
  • Ability to lead when required and provide guidance to other team members, as well as adapt to different styles of communication.
  • Understanding of the following:
    • Business case development with return on investment valuation.
    • Use of integrated connected GIS models in advanced distribution management systems.
    • Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Distribution Automation (DA).
    • ISO55000 and related risk based asset management practices.
  • Knowledge in the following would be an asset:
    • Data Analytics:  Azure, Databricks, PowerBI.
    • Enterprise Asset Management: Bentley APM (IVARA).
    • GIS applications: Electric Office and ESRI.
    • Advanced Distribution Management: Schneider's ADMS, SCADA.
