Community Engagement Specialist

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) works to keep British Columbians safe from wildfires and floods and contributes to managing other emergencies through prevention, preparedness, response and recovery programs and partnerships at the international, national, provincial, and local levels. BCWS has a presence in communities across BC, with thirty-three Fire Zones, six regional Fire Centres, and two provincial centres in Kamloops and Victoria. BCWS has approximately 350 full-time staff and over 1700 seasonal employees. The Executive Leadership Team works collaboratively to set strategic direction for the organization.

As the Community Engagement Specialist, you will be responsible for planning, developing, and implementing collaborative outreach and engagement program(s) within the wildfire management business stream of the BCWS. You will lead program education and information initiatives and projects within a Fire Centre region. In the position, you will fulfill a central role in facilitating consultation and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders including federal, provincial, and local governments, First Nations, the forest sector, the public, and other BCWS Fire Zones.

Qualifications for this role include:

- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Community Engagement or Natural Resource Management plus 1-year related experience; OR
- Diploma in Communications, Community Engagement or Natural Resource Management plus 2 years related experience; OR
- Grade 12 plus 4 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
- Related experience is defined as communications, community engagement, First Nations engagement, natural resource, or wildfire management.
- 1-year supervisory experience.
- 1 year experience developing and applying stakeholder engagement tools and strategies.
- Experience facilitating groups whose members hold varying interests, in a natural resource or wildfire management context.
- Valid BC Driver's License (or equivalent).
Salary$60,998.61 - $69,422.06 annually
