$57,653.70 - $72,008.82 annually, plus a $38.87 bi-weekly isolation allowance

Provide technical advice on the adjudication of natural resource authorizations in a busy natural resource district

The North Island – Central Coast Natural Resource District is seeking a natural resource management technician to join our team. The position is in Port McNeill, an affordable and family-oriented community located on the northern tip of Vancouver Island. The North Island - Central Coast Natural Resource District is home to a team of dedicated public servants tasked with managing the diverse forest and natural resource values over a large geographic area that also includes a number of resource-dependent communities and much of the Great Bear Rainforest. We are seeking an individual that enjoys working in a team environment, with a proven track-record for innovation and initiative, quality client service and strong problem solving abilities.

The Licensed Authorizations Officer position provides for personal and career growth through the assignment of diverse and interesting work, primarily in the office environment. The position provides professional advisory services to a number of program areas, with a focus on Land Act authorizations. Capable of developing effective working relationships, the position provides extension services and routinely engages with stakeholders on natural resource applications and initiatives related to natural resource management and authorizations. Respectful of the rich Indigenous history in BC, the Licensed Authorizations Officer supports the consultation obligations and reconciliation interests of the ministry within the District.
Qualifications for this role include:
• Degree in the natural resource field or equivalent as recognized by the relevant association.
• Registered, or immediately eligible [within 6 months] for registration, with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area [e.g., Association of Forest Professionals, Institute of Agrologists, Engineers and Geoscientists BC (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of British Columbia)].
• Related and recent [within the last 3 years] experience working in natural resource management.
• Recent [within the last 3 years] experience engaging with First Nations and/or stakeholders.
• Willingness to conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
• Valid BC driver’s licence.
