The opportunity
Reporting to the Construction Services West Crew Leader, this position is responsible for supporting pipeline construction activity primarily operating excavators, dozers, loaders, pipe layers, boom trucks and transport trucks & trailers associated with pipeline maintenance.

The successful candidate will often be performing these activities near high pressure pipelines and other energized facilities.

What you'll do

  • Strictly adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations and internal operating procedures
  • Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor in order to facilitate prompt corrective action and reporting
  • Report equipment or vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the equipment upon immediate observation
  • Operate Equipment near and around above and below ground facilities
  • Responsible for shipping, receiving, loading and unloading of construction materials and equipment for projects
  • Perform routine daily pre-use inspections to ensure safe operability of all equipment
  • Perform minor maintenance activities such as equipment lubrication to ensure equipment is maintained and is clean
  • Assist team with pre-job planning of all ground disturbances to ensure safety and compliance of excavations
  • Assume the role of the excavation coordinator as it pertains to TC Energy operating procedures
  • Support the team in other general pipeline maintenance activities as required


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency (GED)
  • 2 years' operating equipment (excavator, dozer, boom truck, pipe layers, loaders, forklift etc.)
  • High degree of respect for safe work habits
  • Valid Class 1 driver's license
  • Proven experience safely and effectively operating hand powered tools such as drills, grinders, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret pipeline drawings, one call clearances and project specific drawings


Preferred Qualifications

  • 8 years of Pipeline construction industry experience, including hands on "hotline" excavation experience
  • Computer proficiency (Windows, Word, email)
  • Hoisting certification
  • Working knowledge of high volume and high-pressure pumps used in pipeline hydrostatic testing activities and high volume / high-pressure air compressors
  • Strong planning and organization skills

This position requires candidates to:

  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review
  • Travel often (95%) to support construction activities in other company locations which will require overnight stays away from home and may be for long duration
  • Work a modified work schedule (9 days on/5 days off)
  • Be subject to overtime, extended work hours and work weeks, and callouts as needed
