The opportunity
We are seeking a skilled Electrical Instrumentation and Controls Technician to join our Canada Gas Operations team in Woodbridge, ON. Reporting to the Maple & Niagara Area Manager, the technician will repair, install, troubleshoot, and perform planned maintenance and corrective tasks on assigned electronic, pneumatic, and/or mechanical control systems, devices, and ancillary equipment.


The successful candidate will also operate and maintain natural gas compression and auxiliary equipment in a manner that meets operational needs, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory requirements. This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses excellent troubleshooting, problem solving, and communication skills.

The regular work schedule for this position will be:
Week 1 - Monday to Thursday 9 hours per day; Friday off
Week 2 - Monday to Thursday 9 hours per day; 8 hours on Friday

What you'll do

  • Perform routine maintenance at compression and measurement facilities, and other facilities relevant to the pipeline system
  • Independently inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot:
    • Centrifugal gas compressors and associated systems (surge control system, seals, unit controls, lubrication systems, vibration protection systems)
    • Gas turbines and associated systems (surge control system, fuel gas systems, air intake and exhaust, lubrication systems, start systems, power turbine and vibration protection systems)
    • Other natural gas facility equipment (control valves, device calibrations, power distribution systems, HVAC systems, relief and over pressure protection devices)
    • Natural gas measurement equipment (flow/pressure control systems, RTU's, orifice meters, Coriolis meters, ultrasonic meters, hydrocarbon dewpoint analyzers, H2S analyzers)
    • Uninterruptable power supplies
    • MCC's (Motor Control Centers)
    • PLC controls
    • Other systems and equipment relevant to the pipeline system
  • Oversee contractors
  • Ensure facilities and personnel comply with the Company's safety, health, environment and risk standards
  • Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP/BlueWorx

Minimum Qualifications

  • Journeyman Electrician, Instrumentation Technician, Electrical or Electromechanical Technician / Technologist
  • 2 years of proven experience working on Electrical Instrumentation and Controls in a related industry
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong computer skills for internal and external communication, record keeping, maintenance management, on-line reporting, material and supply ordering and filing of various forms


Preferred Qualifications

  • Fully certified Journeyman Instrument or Controls Technician or Instrument Mechanic
  • Previous experience working with high pressure natural gas would be considered an asset
  • Familiarity with SAP and the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Experience in high and medium voltage applications
  • Experience working with SCADA systems


This position requires candidates to

  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract for review
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, to include drug and alcohol testing
  • Carry a Company provided cell phone and work a rotating on-call schedule
  • Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
