| Call for Applicants with Lived Indigenous Experience: Open Rank Assistant (Tenure Track), Associate, or Full Professor of Interactive Arts and Technology The Simon Fraser University School of Interactive Arts and Technology acknowledges that our campuses occupy the ancestral, traditional, and unceded territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations in what is now known as Vancouver and Burnaby, and the Katzie, Kwantlen, Kwikwetlem (kʷikʷəƛ̓əm), Qayqayt, Tsawassen, and numerous Stó:lō Nations in what is now known as Surrey, British Columbia. In alignment with our commitment to decolonizing our program, in recognition of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the National Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, and in response to the Simon Fraser University Aboriginal Reconciliation Council "Walk This Path With Us" Report, which include the hiring of Indigenous faculty members and curriculum innovation and Indigenization, the School of Interactive Arts and Technology invites applicants for the Open Rank position of Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track), Associate Professor, or Full Professor of Interactive Arts and Technology. We encourage applications from qualified individuals with lived Indigenous experience. We welcome Global Indigenous applicants, and in particular Indigenous Nations of Turtle Island and First Nations, Inuit, and Metis of these lands with established community connections. The School of Interactive Arts & Technology (SIAT) is an interdisciplinary school with a focus on technology and human experience. We are a unit of the Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology (FCAT), which includes the School of Communication, the School for the Contemporary Arts, the Publishing Program, and the Master of Digital Media Program (MDM). Based on Simon Fraser University's Surrey Campus, SIAT has a vibrant undergraduate and graduate program, with state-of-the-art teaching, research, digital fabrication and immersive media production facilities. We value alternative and collaborative approaches to research, art, publication, and modes of knowledge production. SIAT seeks a candidate who brings their lived Indigenous experience as a part of their research and pedagogy. We invite applicants whose theoretical, technical, and/or artistic approach addresses an interdisciplinary area of research and teaching which could include: - Media Arts--Video, film, animation, game design, storytelling, performance, history - Interactive Environments--Virtual, mixed, and, augmented realities and immersive environments broadly considered - Physical and Situated Computing--Mobile, ubiquitous, embedded, embodied and tangible computing - Computation--Artificial intelligence, computational creativity - Design--Research through design, interaction design, design ethics, critical making, speculative design - Futurisms--Speculative Narratives and approaches to technology, Indigenous Futurisms, Afro-Futurisms - Methodologies--Indigenous research methods, decolonizing methodologies, collaborative and community-based methodologies, research-creation Qualifications: Applicants for the position should have, commensurate with rank and experience: - a PhD in a related area, or MFA - a record of university or college teaching and course development, or demonstrated potential within the university or community contexts - a record of undergraduate or graduate student mentorship, or other forms of mentorship including mentorship within a community context - an established research, publication, and funding record, and/or creative practice - the ability to illustrate lived Indigenous experience Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be asked to: - Teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate level and develop new pedagogical approaches that support our process of making meaningful structural revisions to our program, including Indigenization of the curriculum - Develop and maintain an active creative-practice or research program, including the application for research and/or production funding to support collaborative research and graduate student assistants, and the mobilization of that practice or research as appropriate - Join colleagues in service to the school, faculty, and university governance, culture, and community building SFU is an equity employer and encourages applications from all qualified individuals including First Nations, Metis, Inuit, and all Indigenous peoples, women, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, people of all sexual orientations and gender identities, and others who may contribute to the further diversification of the university.
