The opportunity
The EIC Controls Technician reports to the Alberta Manager, North Cogeneration and Storage and is the facility subject matter expert in operating, maintaining and repairing of various equipment on site, including but not limited to gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, boilers, fuel gas compressors, and PLC & DCS control systems. In this role you will also assist with the development and implementation of asset optimization and performance strategies. We’re looking for someone with enhanced communication and business skills coupled with the ability to collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders.


As the EIC Controls Technician, you will need to be available after normal work hours and weekends as travel will be required to other power generation and gas storage facilities within TC Energy to provide support.

 

What you’ll do
• Perform routine operating and maintenance duties at TC Energy power and gas storage facilities
• Troubleshoot, operate and maintain various types of equipment
• Coordinate and/or perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks and inspections on plant equipment
• Perform various administrative and support duties such as shipping and receiving parts and supplies
• Maintain operational and maintenance records
• Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management systems
• Oversee and coordinate activities utilizing contractors
• Understand and apply emergency management planning procedures
• Ensure work tasks and duties comply with Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) policies and procedures
• Respond to customer and business partner needs in a timely manner
• Ensure facilities are operated and maintained in compliance with TC Energy's HS&E Standards
• Respond to 24-hour call-out or emergency situations


Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma and Red Seal Journeyman Electrician and/or Electrical Engineering Technologist diploma
• Minimum 4 years’ experience in a power plant, cogeneration plant or continuous manufacturing experience or similar experience, additional years of experience are considered an asset
• An alternate combination of experience and experience may be considered

 

Preferred Qualifications
• Diploma or certificate from a technical/trade school in the field of electrical and / or instrumentation
• Demonstrated short- or long-term maintenance planning, coordination and scheduling of routine and emergency outages
• Ability to identify, analyze and implement predictive maintenance technologies and procedures
• Knowledge of instrumentation and controls; experience with troubleshooting and maintaining PLC and DCS control systems.
• Demonstrated strong leadership, interpersonal skills and communication and issue resolution skills
• Ability to create and maintain a positive and collaborative team environment
• Strong organizational skills and ability to set priorities and goals independently
• Good computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) as well as SAP


This position requires candidates to:
• Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review
• Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
• Up to 50 percent travel to other facilities within Power & Storage for planned / unplanned work
• Normal work hours are 9/80 rotation
