PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The Engineer in Training (EIT) employee is responsible for developing an expertise in Track Design, Standards, and Welding. Track design and standards are critical at CP for all linear asset installation, maintenance, and repair. CP collects vast amounts of data to support these functions and a major responsibility of this position is to process these data to drive improvements. Another critical component in repairing track is welding. Welding processes at CP require detailed instructions and staff development through training. Understanding existing design, standards, and welding practices will be a short term component of the position and the employee is expected to use these understandings, available data sources, engineering analysis, and new technologies to drive process and standard improvements. A vision of technology integration to reduce risk for railway operations is strongly encouraged as this role develops. The employee will also need to participate in industry committees and work side by side with regulatory bodies such as Transport Canada, the Transportation Safety Board, the Federal Railroad Association (FRA), and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

Management Conductor Program: Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CP. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
