The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Land Law this position will have a primary focus on supporting the Land Law team within Stakeholder and Supply Chain Management Law at TC Energy. The successful candidates will work with internal and external legal resources to support TC Energy’s Land group for both operational and project work, including major projects in Alberta and other regions of Canada. The successful candidate will work closely with the Land client group as part of a multi-disciplinary approach to operational and project support.

 

Work may include reviewing, drafting and negotiating land rights, including, leases, easements and crossing agreements. It may also include working on the development of standard form agreements.The successful candidate may also provide land related support on regulatory applications and commercial business agreements.

 

What you'll do

  • Advising with respect to legal risk and the application and implementation of TC Energy’s internal policies and processes
  • Providing land legal support, advice, and work product as required to support TC Energy’s operations and projects
  • Researching and drafting memos on various legal issues
  • Other tasks as required.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Law degree from a Canadian law school or an ABA accredited law school is required
  • Minimum of 4 years of related legal experience (related legal experience includes experience in Land, Surface Rights, Real Estate and/or Regulatory Law); and
  • Membership to the Alberta Bar.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated drafting skills
  • Experience in negotiation of agreements
  • Sound judgment and decision making skills
  • Flexible and adaptable; ability to navigate and work through change
  • Fluency in French is an asset.

 

This position may require the successful candidates to:

  •  Travel and practice in other Canadian jurisdictions.
