Applications to be directed to: Dr. Stephanie Springgay, Director Department Contact: Rose Mannarino, Academic Department Manager - mannari@mcmaster.ca Course Name(s)/Number(s): IARTS 3IA3/ ARTHIST 3BB3 / INDIGST 3F03 - Indigenous Art and Visual Culture in Canada Term: Winter 2025 (January 6 to April 8, 2025) (Exam Period: April 10 to 26, 2025) Number of Section(s) Available: 1 Number of Units per Section: 3 Location: JH3 326H Projected Enrollment: 80 Projected TA Support: N/A Wage Rate: $8,056.37 Schedule: Fridays from 11:30 am to 2:20 pm Time(s) and location(s) are subject to change according to timetable updates. Course Description/Relevant Employment Duties A survey of visual art production by Indigenous Canadian communities since c. 1960 including: painting, sculpture, installation, film/video, performance and hip hop. The course focuses on Indigenous (First Nations, Metis and Inuit) artistic practices and examines how those are framed in the context of museums in the 21st century. Three hour lecture; one term Required Qualifications: Indigenous artist-scholar with professional and educational background in the field; MFA or PhD (or near completion), or equivalent professional experience; a commitment to incorporating principles of equity, diversity and inclusion in teaching practice. Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience teaching at the university level. *Supplemented Fees- 15.02(a) The employee may be eligible to receive supplemented fees in accordance with Schedule C of the Collective Agreement. The actual rate of pay when in excess of the base rate of pay is deemed to include any supplemented fees owing, to the extent of the excess amount. If the actual rate of pay is less than the sum of the base rate of pay and the supplemented fees owing, then the employee shall receive the difference.
