Applications to be directed to: Dr. Stephanie Springgay, Director Department Contact: Rose Mannarino, Academic Department Manager - mannari@mcmaster.ca Course Name(s)/Number(s): IARTS 2CP3 - Introduction to Critical Curatorial Perspectives Term: Winter 2025 (January 6 to April 8, 2025) (Exam Period: April 10 to 26, 2025) Number of Section(s) Available: 1 Number of Units per Section: 3 Location: PGCLL B131 Projected Enrollment: 75 Projected TA Support: N/A Wage Rate: $8,056.37 Schedule: Tuesdays from 8:30 am to 11:30 am Time(s) and location(s) are subject to change according to timetable updates. Course Description/Relevant Employment Duties An introduction to the theory, practice, and ethics of curating in galleries, museums, artist-run centres and community arts organizations. Emphasis will be on anti-racist, decoloniality, and anti-oppressive practices, ethics, and contexts. Students will learn specialized knowledge, resources, and methodologies and examine professional and academic responsibilities within curatorial work. Some foundational scholarship on the history of modern museums will be introduced to ground the critical analysis and applications. Three hours; one term Required Qualifications: Professional and educational background in the field; MFA or PhD (or near completion) or equivalent professional experience; a commitment to incorporating principles of equity, diversity and inclusion in teaching practice. Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience teaching at the university level. *Supplemented Fees- 15.02(a) The employee may be eligible to receive supplemented fees in accordance with Schedule C of the Collective Agreement. The actual rate of pay when in excess of the base rate of pay is deemed to include any supplemented fees owing, to the extent of the excess amount. If the actual rate of pay is less than the sum of the base rate of pay and the supplemented fees owing, then the employee shall receive the difference.
