JD#: JD1327 Department description: A part of McMaster University Library, Campus Classroom Technologies (CCT) and Library Computing is responsible for the design, installation, maintenance, and ongoing support of audio-visual presentation equipment in approximately 150 Registrar-controlled classrooms across campus. CCT provides support to all classroom users, including faculty, instructors, students, staff, and guests. General Description: Responsible for providing support on the use of classroom learning technologies to faculty, instructors, staff and students and maintaining audio-visual (AV) equipment, including performing preventative maintenance and repairs. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of audio, video and lighting properties and systems to produce a good quality presentation/ recording. Diagnoses and troubleshoots to resolve equipment problems. Remain current on evolving technologies to provide support. Representative Duties & Responsibilities: - Test, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, install, and upgrade various audio-visual equipment, web conferencing systems, recording equipment, multi-media and presentation equipment to ensure optimal performance of equipment.
- Set up, operate, configure, and remove portable A/V equipment for classroom or special events use.
- Integrate technologies, programs and software as needed.
- Perform on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of software and hardware problems for a variety of end users, including faculty and instructors. Recommend and implement corrective solutions, including performing off-site repairs.
- Conduct regular classroom sweeps to ensure proper functionality of A/V equipment.
- Support with the technical assistance and day-to-day operations including the use of the departmental ticketing system, equipment bookings, orientation sessions and technical assistance.
- Write a variety of documents including general correspondence, reference materials and troubleshooting guides.
- Provide training to end-users on various technology and equipment.
- Provide advice and guidance to faculty, instructors, staff and students regarding the various technology and equipment available.
- Document instances of audio-visual equipment failure, repair, installation, and removal. Build and maintain a spare parts inventory for all audio-visual equipment.
- Make recommendations, source pricing information and purchase audio-visual equipment and consumables. Inspect and verify all audio-visual deliveries upon receipt.
- Manage vendor equipment contracts and oversee contract-based installations.
- Remain current with frequent developments in hardware and software technology.
Supervision: - Ensure adherence to quality standards and procedures for short-term staff and volunteers.
Qualifications: - 2-year Community College diploma in Audio-Visual Technology, Electronics, or related field of study.
- Requires 2 years of relevant experience.
Assets: - Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with a strong understanding of the importance of teamwork.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Able to provide technical support over the phone, in-person, or using remote/virtual tools.
- Able to troubleshoot, maintain and install professional AV/IT equipment.
- Familiarity with IT security practices and network infrastructure.
- Familiarity with assistive technologies and with accessible workflows and outcomes.
- Familiarity with lecture capture tools and software.
