Job Summary The Electrician is responsible for the installation, repair and maintenance of wiring, electrical equipment and fixtures, and control equipment. Accountabilities Primary Accountabilities - Perform duties of a Licensed Electrician in Ontario.
- Install, maintain, modify and repair electrical distribution systems and associated electrical equipment including but not limited to, transformers, switchgear, motors, lighting and cables, receptacles and switches.
- Inspect, test components, and perform preventative maintenance of electrical systems and components.
- Install and maintain emergency electrical equipment.
- Utilize construction documents, including blueprints, wiring diagrams and manufacturer’s installation manuals to complete assigned projects.
- Update and maintain a variety of information and records.
General Accountabilities - Operate within established security and safety regulations.
- Remain knowledgeable and current with trade requirements through participation in courses, instructional seminars and trade shows as required and/or sponsored by the University.
- Communicate with fellow workers, faculty, students, staff and visitors in an appropriate and effective manner.
- In a position of trust, perform job assignments in an efficient and effective manner.
Qualifications - Education: Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent. Current Ontario Electrician Certificate of Qualification. A current and valid Ontario Industrial Electrician or Construction Maintenance license is required.
- Experience: 5 years of related experience, inclusive of apprenticeship requirements.
Effort - Required to lift and carry equipment and supplies (up to 50 lbs).
- Required to stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Required to work in awkward positions and to work with hands above head for prolonged periods of time.
- Required to concentrate for prolonged periods when performing installation, inspection and troubleshooting work.
Working Conditions
- Work is conducted in University owned and operated buildings, including mechanical rooms and electrical rooms.
- Work is conducted in a setting with exposure to inclement weather, dust and dirt. ï‚· Exposure to loud noise and vibration from machinery and tools.
- Required to work independently, in teams, alone and/or in isolated work environments.
- Required to work at heights, including, but not limited to, a 50-foot lift.
- Required to operate a motor vehicle or golf cart for transportation on campus.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment.
Supervision
- May be required to be a day-to-day resource on work procedures to students and casual staff.
