Postdoctoral Fellowship in
Healthcare Service Delivery

 

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the School of Nursing at McMaster University.  This is a senior position within the lab, and the post-doctoral fellow will work closely with the Principal Investigator to complete a large, multi-year, case study (combining qualitative and quantitative data) to understand the experiences of South Asian care partners of older adults living with dementia and residing in mutigenerational homes. Findings will inform the co-creation of future interventions to improve health service delivery for South Asian care partners and care recipients.

 

Main duties and responsibilities

  • The Fellow will gain leadership experience working with undergraduate, graduate trainees and in multiple, case study methodology including data collection (qualitative and quantitative), data analysis, and manuscript development.
  • The Fellow will also be involved in community engagement, capacity building, and co-creating interventions and knowledge translation activities with the South Asian community.
  • The Fellow will be responsible to work collaboratively with the nominated principal investigator (Dr. Pamela Baxter) and co-principal investigators (Dr. Monica Parry, and Dr. Marie Savundranayagam)

An ideal candidate would be an experienced researcher who has:

  • Completed their Ph.D. in nursing or gerontology, or related field within the past 5 years
  • Experience in both qualitative and quantitative research methods (ideally qualitative case study methods)
  • An ablity to understand and speak a variety of South Asian languages
  • Experience in community engagement and patient-oriented research
  • Experience coordinating or managing large research projects
  • Knowledge and understanding of the research environment (Academic and other funding structures)
  • Proven ability to produce academic papers and conference presentations
  • Residence in the Greater Toronto Area as some of the research activities will be conducted face-to-face

The candidate will be expected to assist a team of multidisciplinary faculty members and support graduate trainees. They will receive support from McMaster Institute for Research in Aging (MIRA), as well as have access to a group of faculty members from across multiple faculties and departments. The candidate will engage in research and scholarship.

 

A successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Overseeing a large, qualitative multiple case study
  • Preparing and coordinating ethics approvals
  • Liaising with South Asian community collaborators and decision makers
  • Recruitment, data collection and analysis (both qualitative and quantitative)
  • Developing knowledge translation materials
  • Co-designing interventions
  • Preparing grant submissions and publications
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Overseeing graduate students

 

Duration and Funding

The term of the fellowship is one year (extendable to three). Local, national, and international applicants are welcome to apply. Selection will be based upon the candidate's research potential and alignment of their skills and experience with the needs of the research team and the School of Nursing. The salary is $51,000 CAD/year with benefits. Please note: any extension of this Fellowship is subject to the candidate’s assessment and availability of funds).
