The Department of Pediatrics at McMaster Children’s Hospital and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton is seeking a full-time academic pediatrician (GFT) committed to advancing clinical research, excellence in teaching, and clinical scholarship to join the Division of General Pediatrics, providing Level II NICU care as the Head of Service at the St. Joseph’s Charlton site. The Head of Service provides leadership in promoting the hospital's mission and values, oversees patient quality care, supports academic activities, manages resources effectively, participates in strategic planning, fosters a positive work environment, and ensures compliance with regulations and policies. St. Joseph’s has a busy birthing unit with over 3,400 deliveries/year. The special care nursery is a 17-bed level 2B nursery. The pediatricians also consult on the mother-baby unit, in the Breastfeeding and Newborn Assessment clinic, and lead an innovative Neonatal Abstinence pre and postnatal Follow up Clinic. The ideal candidate for this position will possess exceptional leadership skills and expertise in Level 2 neonatal care, supported by at least five years of experience as a pediatrician or neonatologist. Additionally, they should have a strong background in neonatal research including postgraduate research training, and a demonstrated commitment to advancing education. They will play a key role in collaborating with the McMaster Division of Neonatology to develop policies and facilitate patient transfers. Working as part of a team of pediatricians primarily based at St. Joseph’s Hospital, their responsibilities will include attending deliveries as needed, alongside an active nurse/RT team. The neonatal team comprises experienced nursing staff, a full-time NP, Social Worker, pharmacist, and various learners. Close collaboration is maintained with family physicians, obstetricians, midwives, and the leadership team within the Women’s and Infants’ Program. The successful candidate will serve as the program lead among pediatricians at St. Joseph’s as well as fulfilling clinical responsibilities at St. Joseph’s Healthcare. The successful candidate will be provided with an opportunity to provide ambulatory care at St. Joseph’s or through other collaborative care opportunities. The team of pediatricians at St. Joseph’s work together with allied health to provide equitable and inclusive care to the diverse population of infants, children, youth, and their families. Applicants should be certified (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Pediatrics and must be licenced or eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario.
