The opportunity

TC Energy has a career opportunity for an intermediate to senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Canada Gas Operations (CGO) division as Turbomachinery Engineer with a specialization in gas turbine Dry Low Emission combustion systems. In this position you will report to the Manager of the CGO Facility Integrity & Reliability Engineering team within the Operations Services department. Technical aptitude and problem-solving skills will be critical to your success as you provide engineering support for turbomachinery and related systems.

 

What you’ll do

  • Provide engineering support for turbomachinery and related systems that requires knowledge in rotating equipment, engineering, operation and maintenance, technical knowledge, and coordination in:
  • Tuning of combustion systems for acoustics/noise and emissions performance
  • System level modeling and integration of turbomachinery
  • Detailed turbomachinery analysis including aerodynamic, rotor dynamics, bearings, seals,
  • Support Performance testing and monitoring of compressors
  • Condition monitoring
  • Failure Investigation
  • Assist in development of engineering integrity & reliability programs including budgets, decision summaries detailing investment valuation, scope and justification for projects
  • Enhance, improve and develop procedures and specifications with sphere of influence.
  • Work to ensure that project designs of systems are fit-for-purpose and demonstrated to meet engineering specifications and project development expectations (such as performance and cost) as well as safety, engineering, quality, regulatory, environmental, commercial, operating, and maintenance requirements
  • Participate in hazard analysis and risk assessment on engineered systems and equipment
  • Application of engineering principles, codes, and standards to identify issues, recommend improvements and assist in implementing solutions
  • Providing technical support, specification, design review, fabrication, construction and commissioning support

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technologist degree with relevant technical experience, as recognized by APEGA
  • Minimum 8 to 12 years of progressive experience, experience in pipeline, process or power facilities is preferred
  • Hands-on experience in the mapping and tuning of aero-derivative and light industrial gas turbines, including familiarity with fuel control systems and mapping processes of major gas turbine vendors
  • Knowledge of combustion acoustic and vibration hardware measurement systems and signal processing techniques
  • Knowledge of emissions measurement systems, test protocols and codes
  • Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in Alberta
  • An alternate combination of education and experience may be considered

  • Possesses performance monitoring and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent time management skills
