Assistant Professor (Part Time), Midwifery Education Program,

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology

The Midwifery Education Program aims to be a leader in challenging institutional norms and redefining midwifery in Canada by building inclusive spaces for students, faculty, staff, and community supporters who have been systemically excluded. We are committed to scholarly inquiry and emphasize the lifelong ability to learn and grow as individuals and as an organization. Our approach assures the acquisition of the knowledge, skills and values needed to begin and continue to practice midwifery. We foster inclusive and critical thinking in the academic setting that extends into the practice setting and forms the basis for sound professional practice. 

Applications are invited for three part time positions, each position being for a one-year term with a workload equivalent to 0.5 FTE, at the rank of Assistant Professor (Part Time) in the Midwifery Education Program, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Health Sciences, McMaster University.

The ideal candidate will be a registered midwife with a doctoral degree, experience teaching at the undergraduate level, current active practice as a midwife, and a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion within midwifery education.  Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching in the Midwifery Education Program and with experience practicing midwifery and precepting midwifery students in Canada. Candidates must be eligible for registration with the College of Midwives of Ontario.  

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication, problem solving, and diplomacy skills, and a commitment to working collaboratively within the midwifery faculty and across disciplines. Each position will involve teaching one undergraduate course per term within the Midwifery Education Program and additional administrative responsibilities. The assigned workload will not include research activities.

Each appointment is at the rank of Assistant Professor (Part Time), for a term of one year (potentially renewable).
