The opportunity

 

Our Risk and Engineering Strategy (RES) team is part of the Engineering and Research Programs Department. As Manager, of Technology Development and Innovation (TDI), you will drive the team towards the provision of pipeline risk governance for all business units (US Gas, Canada Gas, Mexico and Liquids) to support safe effective pipeline integrity maintenance decisions. The team will excel in continual pipeline integrity program improvements while concurrently meeting regulatory requirements to maintain safe and reliable pipe systems.  

The focus of the TDI team is to collaborate with the business units to bring all research projects and technology development together to form a well coordinated R&D approach for all technical areas. This will work to enhance the effectiveness of the enterprises’ technical programs.

The Risk and Engineering Strategy Group is seeking an innovative, forward-thinking people leader for the TDI Team to work in the Calgary Head office. The ideal candidate is a person with exceptional communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across diverse groups with different technical expertise.  Experience with managing research projects and having a good understanding of the current state of tools, technologies and key areas of development within the pipeline industry is also beneficial.   Organizational skills and project management skills would also be an asset.  

 

What you’ll do

  • Building, managing, coordinating, and advancing the Technology Development and Innovation program
  • Develop and implement a communication strategy both internally and externally for R&D projects, related operationalization and value creation
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders to understand business unit research needs and initiatives
  • Effective facilitation of TDI Steering Committee research review and prioritization meetings
  • Engagement with the In-Line Inspection (ILI) Steering Committee on active projects to prevent redundancies in research
  • Examining the effectiveness of the program
  • Coordinating Industry collaboration i.e. PRCI (Pipeline Research Council International), Pipeline Safety Group, NACE etc.
  • Support the TDI team in reaching their development goals

 

Minimum qualifications

  • 8+ years progressive leadership experience
  • 10+ years applicable technical experience
  • Registered as an APEGA member – Professional Engineer is preferred
  • Completion of a Bachelors Degree in Engineering.  Preference will be given for a specialty in Mechanical or Civil field of study, but other engineering disciplines will be considered
  • Creative thinker with a strong interest and proven record for innovation, research and technology / tool development
  • Demonstrated success in managing research projects
  • Experience in effective communication within the company and at industry level
  • Strategic mindset with experience in managing many initiatives with strong execution and implementation skills
  • Demonstrates initiative and makes sound judgement to effectively resolve issues
  • Highly motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills able to collaborate effectively across diverse technical groups
  • Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment while remaining organized
  • Accountable to meet commitments while consistently delivering results within required timelines

 

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in the Pipeline Industry with an emphasis on Research and/or Pipeline Integrity
  • Good understanding of the current state of tools, technologies and key areas of development
