Senior Water and Dike Safety Specialist
$77,718.46 - $99,452.15 annually

The Water Management Branch provides leadership, operational policy support and oversight for regional and provincial level water programs, coordination with regional and other agencies on water issues and specialized expertise in water licensing.

The Senior Water and Dam Safety Specialist provides leadership, support and senior technical expertise on regional water issues, including flood response, dike safety, compliance with the Water Sustainability Act and water planning initiatives. This position exercises the powers and authorities of a Deputy Inspector of Dikes under the Dike Maintenance Act. They may also exercise the power and authority of an Assistant Water Manager under the Water Sustainability Act. This position may contribute to provincial flood safety initiatives and policies and work with complex natural resource issues involving multiple partners and First Nations.

Qualifications for this role include:
- A Bachelor's Degree in natural resource management or related field (e.g., Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Forestry, Geography, etc.) plus three (3) or more years' related experience working in a natural resource discipline.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience/training may be considered.
- Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer or Geoscientist with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) (preferred) or registered, or immediately eligible for registration, with another professional BC association, such as Forest Professionals BC (FPBC) or BC institute of Agrologists (BCIA) with appropriate experience. Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the BC association within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.

Related experience must include at least one of the following:
- Interpreting and applying water/flood management legislation and regulations to support technical decision making or project management.
- Technical water related management (e.g., hydrotechnical design, hydrological assessments, geotechnical, etc.)
