Specialist Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation on Stroke Rehab Program

McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences Centre are seeking a clinician educator in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) to join the Stroke Rehabilitation team at Hamilton General Hospital - Regional Rehabilitation Centre (HHS-RRC) and the Department of Medicine, Division of PM&R. The position is best suited for a PM&R physician who is skilled in optimizing the recovery of stroke survivors with demonstrated teaching ability, research experience and/or Quality Improvement training/experience. The successful candidate will join a group of highly skilled and motivated PM&R specialists and teams.

The successful candidate will practice in a dedicated inpatient rehabilitation setting with interprofessional teams for six (6) months of the year. There is direct linkage to the acute care hospital for seamless transfers between buildings. Inpatient responsibilities will be shared with other PM&R specialists and a hospitalist. Opportunities exist for outpatient clinics and electromyography clinics.

The Stroke Rehabilitation Program at HHS-RRC supports:

  • Two interprofessional teams
  • 14 beds each team
  • Rapid acute care consults
  • Full access to DI and laboratory support

The successful candidate will be a full-time faculty member of the Division of PM&R, Department of Medicine at McMaster University. The Division of PM&R supports a robust residency program, and teaching of residents in the PM&R program and medical students from the McMaster DeGroote School of Medicine occurs on a daily basis clinically, and periodically through Academic Half Days for residents. A growing fellowship program enhances this work.  The successful candidate will also be part of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Hamilton Health Sciences. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience and expected academic contributions. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the clinical and academic mission of Hamilton Health Sciences and the Division of PM&R at McMaster University.
