Advisor, First Nations Relations

The First Nations Relations Advisor communicates with First Nations on natural resource applications and liaises with ministry staff as an expert on the legal and procedural requirements of First Nations consultation. This position successfully establishes and maintains productive working relationships with a wide variety of contacts.

Qualifications for this role include:

- Degree in the natural resource field or equivalent as recognized by the relevant association and a minimum of two (2) years related experience; OR,
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Registered, or eligible for registration, with a British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area. (i.e., Association of Forest Professionals, Institute of Agrologists, Engineers and Geoscientists BC (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of British Columbia).
- Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, resource management, social or economic development issues.

*Related experience must include a combination of the following:

- Experience working with and building collaborative relationships with First Nations or Indigenous communities, preferably in areas of natural resource or environmental management or land use stewardship.
- Experience building and maintaining collaborative relationships with stakeholders, preferably in areas of natural resource or environmental management or land use stewardship.
- Experience leading or supporting consultation, negotiations, developing and/or supporting agreements, preferably with First Nations.
- Experience participating in consultation, engagement, negotiation, or facilitation of sessions with First Nations preferably related to land use or natural resource management issues.
- Experience addressing divergent perspectives, negotiating, or facilitating solutions or compromises to complex issues and resolving or mitigating conflict.
Salary$61,182.54 - $77,067.27 annually
