Target hiring range $75,194 - $87,727

The Legal and Policy Advisor collaborates with OHA staff, member hospitals, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and other health care stakeholders in supporting the OHA’s thought leadership initiatives.
You are a self-starter with critical thinking skills, a highly developed analytical ability and project management skills. You have extensive experience in providing research, legal and policy analysis support on a variety of regulatory and professional issues impacting hospitals. You are a great listener and your communication style, energy and self-confidence motivates people to work with you. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and you have a strong sense of accountability for your work and the service that you and your team provide to your colleagues, the organization, and stakeholders.
Reporting to the Director, Legal Policy and Professional Issues, you provide legal and policy advice, legal research and project management and committee leadership to various OHA initiatives, working with multidisciplinary stakeholder groups related to legal and professional issues. You will:
• Conduct policy-based research and jurisdictional scans
• Prepare briefing notes and policy options papers, and legal research to support senior management decisions
• Lead legal analysis to assist OHA members with ongoing and emerging sector issues
• Support the development of resources and educational materials to assist member hospitals with legislative, legal and professional issues, including emerging case law, regulatory and legislative changes
• Prepare advocacy materials, including policy positions and submissions, to relevant system stakeholders
• Provide expertise and support to relevant committees, sub-committees and working groups
• Consult with OHA membership and liaise with government and health care stakeholders
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Legal, Policy and Professional Issues
You have an understanding of legislative and regulatory processes; knowledge of current issues affecting the health care sector, including but not limited to privacy, risk management and labour; well-developed research and analytical abilities; excellent interpersonal, facilitation and written and verbal communication skills; and superior organizational and project management skills.
A degree in law is required. Hospital, healthcare, or another relevant public sector experience will be considered an asset.
