| Within FEAS, we know that our representation of Indigenous students is very low and needs to be an area of focus. When it comes to accessing STEM careers, there is desire and interest in these subjects, however, the path in accessing these programs is not equitable and requires a grand shift to truly meet the needs of Indigenous students. We also know that many prospective students tend to self-select out of STEM fields in grades 6-10. Therefore we are looking to hire a part-time Indigenous Specialist to help us create an Indigenous Outreach Program. This program will be overseen by Nika Zolfaghari, Manager, Equity and Community Inclusion, and Minakshi Suri, Engineering Outreach Coordinator - both of whom have extensive knowledge and experience in designing and executing effective and engaging outreach programming. The Indigenous Specialist will work with our team to lead and create a curriculum that will allow Indigenous youth to explore STEM and its relation to Indigenous Ways of Knowing. | |
