The Opportunity

Magnet is looking for a Full Stack Developer to join the team and lead the design and development of business-critical databases, web and mobile applications that provide information and statistics reporting relevant to the monitoring of Magnet's key performance indicators. As a Full Stack Developer, you will provide the day-to-day information system support for the Magnet under the general guidance of the Director, Marketing and Program Advancement. You will troubleshoot and set up a variety of computer, mechanical and electronic based technologies as well as provide technical advice and support to Magnet staff and team members

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Working with management and stakeholders to define application requirements, conducts needs analysis, identifies potential strategies and solutions, and provides work effort estimates.
  • Providing regular updates to the management team on project status, current and impending issues and recommending action plans throughout the production, testing and implementations phases.
  • Adhering to guidelines and policies introduced and governed by the university's Chief Information Security Officer on the technical design and implementation of all projects.
  • Researching, evaluating and recommending new or upgrades to equipment, hardware and software; developing and presenting recommended plans to the Director, Marketing and Program Engagement on equipment purchases and modifications.
  • Partnering with internal and external stakeholders, for guidance on system issues resolution and specific project milestones.
  • Providing technical expertise and advice on overall IT procedures and methods; ensuring that Magnet adheres to the university's IT-related policies, and recommending, implementing and enforcing Magnet specific policies in relation to information systems.
  • Providing user training on internally- and third party-built software, as required.
  • Assisting management with the evaluation of new technologies and software vendor products. Researching, analyzing and assessing existing and emerging technologies and their use in an educational environment.

Qualifications

To help us learn more about you, please provide a cover letter and resume (including sample of your work, if available) describing how you meet the following required qualifications:

  • Completion of a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant work experience in both computer applications and infrastructure projects is required to be able to analyze, design, implement, test and maintain information systems.
  • Experience with full stack development, working with various modern libraries and frameworks. 
  • IT Project management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of programming languages (e.g. PHP, JavaScript, JSON, SQL, and SAML).
  • Knowledge of Wordpress.
  • Strong understanding of information system architecture, integrating third party Application Programming Interface (API), and debugging large program files.
  • Knowledge of frontend code and database layer. 
  • Knowledge of code versioning tools to maintain code integrity and organization.
  • Understanding and implementation of security and data protection.
  • Creating servers and databases for functionality.
  • Solid oral and written communication skills for report writing, making recommendations and general correspondence, facilitating meetings, workshops, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills to facilitate client and team meetings, representing the Magnet with regards to facility and systems management and enhancement with internal and external stakeholders on specific project milestones.
  • Strong commitment to client service, especially staff, student, faculty and external stakeholders.
