Indigenous Relations Team Lead

Salary $65,367.78 - $81,773.78 annually

BC Timber Sales (BCTS) manages about 20 per cent of the province’s allowable annual cut for Crown timber, generating economic prosperity for British Columbians through the safe, sustainable development and auction of Crown timber. BCTS operates in 33 communities and directly supports over 8,000 jobs across B.C. Data from our operations are used to help determine the market value of the timber harvested from public land and ensures British Columbians receive fair value from their timber resources. The Indigenous Relations Lead works within and across business areas and is instrumental in developing and maintaining positive relationships with Indigenous Peoples to advance BCTS’ business principle dedicated to true and lasting reconciliation. The position supervises Indigenous Relations Liaison(s) and leads engagement and reconciliation efforts with Indigenous Peoples. The position also facilitates more complex legal consultation processes with Indigenous Peoples; leads and supports the negotiation and implementation of business-to-business and relational agreements that contribute to effective and durable relationships with Indigenous Peoples; and leads activities where a First Nation overlaps with multiple business areas and in situations involving more complex First Nations interests or initiatives.

Qualifications for this role include:

• Registered, or eligible for registration, with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area, (i.e., Association of BC Forest Professionals, Institute of Agrologists, Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists) and 3 years of experience, gained within the last 5 years, natural resource or Indigenous Peoples relationship management.
• Experience in successfully negotiating/mediating solutions with Indigenous Peoples’ communities.
• Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
• Experience with contract management.
• Education related to Indigenous Peoples.
• Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, resource management, social or economic development issues.
• Demonstrated experience in interest-based negotiation or mediation.
