• Job duties:

o Prepare and cook meals.
o Prepare ingredients for the shift; wash and chop vegetables, season meat, etc.
o Weigh, measure, mix and prepare ingredients according to recipes.
o Steam, grill, boil, bake or fry meats, fish, vegetables, and other ingredients.
o Check food and ingredients for freshness.
o Arrange and garnish dishes.
o Keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen.
o Operate a commercial dishwasher.
o Oversee kitchen operations.
o Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment.
o May set up and oversee buffets.
o Clean kitchen and work area.
o Determine size of food portions, estimate food requirements, and monitor and order supplies.
o May train kitchen staff.
o Cooks may specialize in preparing and cooking ethnic cuisine or specialty dishes.

• Terms of employment: Permanent and full-time

Wage: CAD $18-20 per hour for 35 hours per week

o Physically able to stand and move during the length of shift; able to bend and kneel through shift; able to lift at least 25 pounds.

• Required education:
o Completion of secondary school is preferred but not required.
o Completion of a three-year apprenticeship program for cooks or completion of college or other program in cooking or food safety or several years of commercial cooking experience is preferred but not required.

• Required work experience: 1 year kitchen experience preferred.
