Job Summary


The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) is looking for students who thrive on tackling diverse challenges in a unique environment. CSIS offers opportunities to students to gain valuable experience in analysis, with the possibility to return for multiple placements. Students will be given the opportunity to cultivate their skills and knowledge by being paired with experienced employees who will provide feedback during the work term. They will have the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and experience before choosing a career specialization. 

Students will assist with tasks including but not limited to the following:

  • Collect information from the public by obtaining, evaluating and interpreting potential threat related information and establishing an appropriate course of action; 
  • Conduct urgent and sensitive operational research and analysis
  • Evaluate, assess complex data and provide information analysis by preparing reports and providing recommendations to relevant stakeholders; 
  • Respond to crises and emerging national security events
  • Keep abreast of current events by engaging with relevant stakeholders, monitoring open sources and reading threat assessment reports; 
  • Conduct advanced Internet intelligence collection by assessing online information and employing appropriate investigative means to gather online intelligence; 
  • Assist with projects and presentations to internal and external stakeholders; 
  • Review procedures and policies and suggest updates. 

Education


Undergraduate degree or College Diploma programs including but not limited to the following areas of study:

  • Emergency Management
  • Call Center Program
  • Criminology 
  • Psychology
  • Political Science

Experience


Candidates with experience with the following is preferable: 

  • Experience in conducting research from various sources and analyzing the information in order to draw inferences or make recommendations verbally or in writing
  • Experience in the delivery of client service (interacting and communicating) with employees at all levels, visitors as well as members of the public
  • Experience in working in a high pressure environment, such as a call centre, an operations or crisis centre, etc. 
  • Ability to work with fellow team members and team supervisors to solve issues or problems;
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations

Conditions of Employment


Applicants must be registered as a full-time, post-secondary student in an accredited academic institution recognized in Canada. Priority consideration will be given to those enrolled in an accredited co-op/internship program.

Must work shifts based on a 24/7 operation.

At CSIS, we are not looking to simply fill student placement positions every four months. Our program is designed to identify and develop potential full-time employees.

Security Requirements


Candidates must be eligible to receive an Enhanced Top Secret security clearance. The process involves a security interview, a polygraph, and a background investigation that includes credit and financial verifications. The use of illegal drugs is a criminal offense.
