PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Signal and Communications (S&C) team is part of Canadian Pacific’s Engineering Services Department and is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of CP’s train signal and control systems, wayside detection systems, and wayside voice and data communication systems.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Leads the development of circuit design and typical drawings for the train control system;
  • Ensures software and site configurations are developed in a consistent and timely manner, and pass all Verification & Validation checks;
  • Software and site configurations are properly distributed, version controlled, and archived;
  • Ensures wayside signal assets are properly commissioned and documented;
  • Leads the investigation of Wayside signal issues;
  • Provides support for training development;
  • Participates in industry committees;
  • Prepares and supports detailed cost estimates and conceptual designs for the wayside signal Train Control projects including Positive Train Control;
  • Develops system requirements and technical specifications for S&C use;
  • Ensures/supports all wayside signal and switch equipment required for S&C projects are ordered and all required circuit drawings are produced;
  • Supports Commissioning Test Plans for all S&C Projects and installations;
  • Provides guidance to the S&C Construction Supervisors;
  • Monitors the labour and material expenditures and ensures the charges are properly distributed and within budgetary guidelines;
  • Develops and manages the Wayside Interface Unit (WIU) application software;
  • Supports, prepares and reviews the procedures for the S&C Design Requirements Manual;
  • Supports, prepares and adheres to all S&C Quality Plan requirements.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Electrical Engineering;
  • Professional Engineer with minimum 10-15 years’ experience in electrical and/or North American railroad signaling or train control;
  • Possess and apply leadership practices;
  • Strategic thinker in fast paced 24/7 environment;
  • Ability to explain & communicate complex technical issues;
  • Must be able to drive & lead change;
  • Must be eligible to travel cross border to the United States.
