The opportunity

This position is based in North Bay Ontario and reports to the Construction Services East Team Leader.  The position is responsible for supporting pipeline construction activity primarily operating excavators, dozers, loaders, pipe layers, boom trucks and transport trucks & trailers associated with pipeline maintenance. The incumbent will often be performing these activities in close proximity to high pressure pipelines and other energized facilities. 

This position requires frequent travel (90% of the time) to support pipeline construction maintenance activities. 

Willingness to work a modified work schedule (9 days on/5 days off).

 

What you’ll do

  • Strictly adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations and internal operating procedures
  • Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor in order to facilitate prompt corrective action and reporting
  • Report equipment or vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the equipment upon immediate observation.
  • Operate Equipment near and around above and below ground facilities
  • Responsible for shipping, receiving, loading and unloading of construction materials and equipment for projects
  • Perform routine daily pre-use inspections to ensure safe operability of all equipment.
  • Perform minor maintenance activities such as equipment lubrication to ensure equipment is maintained and is clean 
  • Assist team with pre-job planning of all ground disturbances to ensure safety and compliance of excavations. 
  • Assume the role of the excavation coordinator as it pertains to TC Energy operating procedures.
  • Support the team in other general pipeline maintenance activities as required.   

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency is required (GED)
  • Minimum 3 years’ operating equipment (excavator, dozer, boom truck, pipe layers, loaders, fork lift etc.) Preferred experience working around hotlines
  • Have a valid G driver’s license,
  • High degree of respect for safe work habits.
  • Successful completion of technical tasks evaluations related to equipment being operated
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment while acting independently in the execution of pipeline maintenance.
  • Ability to safely and effectively operate hand powered tools such as drills, grinders, etc.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding mechanical duties as required
  • Complete project documentation as required including JSA Forms, excavation checklists, etc
  • Ability to read and interpret pipeline drawings, one call clearances and project specific drawings
  • Strong planning and organization skills
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills and mentor other team members

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pipeline construction industry experience including hands on “hotline” excavation experience is preferred
  • Computer proficiency (Windows, Word, email)
  • AZ license is an asset
  • Hoisting certification is considered an asset (Mobile Br2)
  • Working knowledge of high volume and high-pressure pumps used in pipeline hydrostatic testing activities
  • Working knowledge of high volume/ high-pressure air compressors

 

This position requires candidates to:

  • Supply driving abstract
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
  • Be subject to overtime, extended work hours and work weeks, and call-outs as needed
  • Travel often (95%) to support construction activities in other company locations which will require overnight stays away from home and may be for long duration.
  • Driving a motor vehicle is an essential job function of this position.  Following a conditional offer of employment, the Company will check the motor vehicle records of any job applicant when driving is an essential job function.
