Would you like to be a part of an open-pit truck and shovel mine with an expected lifespan of 50 years?  If so we have an exciting new opportunity for a Mine Drainage Technician. Your main responsibility will be to move water safely and efficiently while protecting the environment. 

You will use your expertise to:

  • Build, operate and maintain surface dewatering infrastructure - sumps, ditches, culverts, berms, drains, HDPE lines
  • Fuse HDPE pipe
  • Complete ponds inspection and pump rounds
  • Complete winterization and spring run-off readiness activities
  • Operate heavy equipment:  excavators, dozers, graders, and loaders

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Two years of experience with construction of drainage systems (civil works background or commercial / residential buildings)
  • A proven safety training and outstanding safety record
  • A basic knowledge of hydraulic systems
  • Previous experience with pumps, centrifuge systems or dredging and dewatering systems
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Excellent communication skills and a willingness to train and provide mentorship to others
  • A continuous improvement attitude and are able to seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, process and hazards in the workplace
  • A zero-tolerance for shortcuts, and if the procedure is incorrect, you fix it
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Previous experience operating heavy equipment while building dewatering systems

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our camp-based Fort Hills mining site, located in Alberta’s Athabasca region, 90 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • The shift schedule is a 7 days on /7 days off rotation (7 days on, 7 days off, 7 nights on, 7 nights off; 12-hour shifts)
  • This position is safety sensitive
  • The roles requires working outdoors in harsh weather conditions
