In this role, you will manage the Reservoir Engineering team supporting the Terra Nova offshore oil field located approximately 350 kilometers southeast of St. John’s. Terra Nova is a mature field with both late life asset challenges and significant remaining development upside that will require innovative thinking and application of emerging technologies to advance new projects.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Provide direct functional leadership, mentoring and coaching for Terra Nova reservoir engineers and ensure team members are appropriately engaged in the provision of timely and quality technical reservoir engineering support
  • Provide feedback and advice to Terra Nova leadership on work priorities and translate those priorities into individual work plans for the team; develop and implement reservoir engineering staffing plans, in collaboration with Suncor business and functional leadership
  • Ensure quality of Terra Nova technical assessment is sufficient for business decisions to be made, in the areas of: field monitoring and production forecasting, life of field development optimization including developing and assessing opportunities for capital investment, regulatory requirements and reserves processes
  • Ensure consistency with Suncor technical/business processes and be an active contributor to the ongoing development of the functional group
  • Represent reservoir engineering issues in tactical and strategic discussions within the Reservoir Management Team (includes reservoir engineering, production engineering, and geoscientists), peers, and senior management
  • Work with regulator and Terra Nova partners, appropriately representing Suncor’s viewpoint to optimally tackle problems
  • Provide technical advice and mentorship on specialized activities, including supporting Suncor’s progress towards digital transformation

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • 12 or more years of related engineering experience
  • Three years of leadership experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Registration as a professional engineer or eligible to become a professional engineer through PEGNL
  • Experience in oil and gas reservoir engineering in offshore developments, including a deep understanding of fundamental reservoir engineering principles and knowledge of: reservoir simulation, field development planning, analysis of field production data, well operations, and proficiency in reservoir engineering tools and processes
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills, with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment and facilitate collaboration and high performance between functional teams across our G&G, Production Engineering, Drilling, Facilities, Economic Evaluation groups
  • The ability to solve complex and multidimensional problems independently and in management teams
  • Excellent ability to communicate and set up internal/external communication networks to deliver business requirements

Preference for:

  • Experience with project risk assessments and familiarity with gated process for project governance
  • A positive attitude, you view our business and company in a positive light and you motivate others to do the same while holding them accountable
  • A critical thinking point of view, with an understanding of complex processes, you seek out continuous improvement opportunities and creative process enhancements

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our St. John’s office, located at 130 Kelsey Drive
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • Qualified residents of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador will be given first consideration in the staffing of this position
