In this position, reporting to the Solution Delivery Director within Digital Project Execution, you will lead a team of cross-disciplinary resources to ensure solutions are executed with high quality throughout the delivery lifecycle (requirement gathering, business and solution designs, code development, testing cycles, and the end product). You will use your expertise to:

  • Be accountable for the end to end quality of the solution delivery that addresses application and infrastructure technical requirements to meet business outcomes
  • Define quality standards, guidelines, measurements, and targets for work products for the entire project life cycle (development, analysis, design, build, test, deployment, transition to operation)
  • Provide effective leadership, direction, influence, motivation and support to a high-performing team of Quality Analysts, Contractors, and Vendor resources; plan and manage resource forecast based on demands and capacity, ensuring that the team is set up for success
  • Lead the team to supporting multiple priority projects with agile and traditional methodologies while providing quality solutions that are scaled appropriately, are efficient, and meet all budget and quality target requirements
  • Steward resources toward digital investment with an attitude to drive efficiency through automation and optimized approach while reducing costs and adding business value
  • Define strategy and approach for automated testing for projects in various test cycles (Unit, Performance, Integrated, Systems, User Acceptance, Load)
  • Model flexibility and adaptability in response to a changing environment
  • Develop people through setting clear expectations, providing constructive feedback, and mentorship to achieve high levels of individual and team performance

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Ten years of experience working as an engaging, versatile and strong leader to teams of medium to large scale in the IT Projects space
  • Experience in the Oil and Gas industry business processes and their linkage to technology
  • Good judgment and a pragmatic approach to troubleshooting and managing expectations, while developing and implementing solutions that optimize project lifecycle activities within the financial budget and through technical constraints
  • Experience with project delivery frameworks and processes, with specific experience using Agile (Scrum) and Waterfall methodology and practices
  • Experience in one or more application domains (Upstream, Downstream and Enterprise applications)
  • Proven experience with quality testing and measurement tools, and quality management in solution delivery
  • Broad knowledge of quality strategy and framework, business, application, information, technical, infrastructure, data analytic and security architecture
  • The ability to successfully work under tight project deadlines in an agile environment, and your strong collaboration skills enable you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups
  • Strong conflict resolution, negotiation and decision-making abilities

Preference for:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS or equivalent
  • Exposure to working within Suncor’s operating model
  • Experience working in the ADEM Project Methodology

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • Some travel may be required on an infrequent basis based on project requirements
