We have multiple opportunities for civil engineering students where you will develop your professional skills while supporting the team with mine design and planning as well as giving insight into how civil engineering functions either in our upstream (oil sands and in situ) or regional operations.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Participate in finding solutions to technical issues and in the verification of implementation of these solutions
  • Identify, develop and handle tools for tracking process data for analysis and metrics reporting
  • Build and present summary reports, performance metrics reports, graphical representation and presentations as required
  • Improve production profiles to support long range plans
  • Work with the team to recognize and optimize current production as well as develop and implement production strategies for future Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) developments
  • Assist in the development of mine planning standards, policies and systems; the design of mine-site infrastructure (ditches, haul roads, stockpiles) and other development activities

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Current enrollment in a formal co-op or internship program in 3rd or 4th year Civil Engineering at an accredited post-secondary institution, and returning to full-time studies after the work term

  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Preference for:

  • Exceptional computer skills with intermediate to advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel
  • A high level of understanding of oil and gas production and processing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, administration and organizational skills
  • A continuous improvement mindset and you are able to seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, process and hazards in the workplace
  • A zero-tolerance for shortcuts, and if the procedure is incorrect, you fix it

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will be based in Calgary, Edmonton, Fort McMurray or Fort Hills
  • This is an 8 – 12 month work term, from September 2019 – August 2020
  • Some of these positions have been identified as safety sensitive
  • Relocation support will be provided if approved for the position, we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible candidates
  • Your work schedule will be determined based on the position requirements
