We have a phenomenal development opportunity for an electrical and instrumentation (E&I) engineer with process plant or refinery experience at our Fort McMurray location. You will interact with cross-functional teams, maintenance, and operations groups to build on existing strategies. You will also use your dedication to continuous improvement to provide detailed technical assistance for day-to-day upgrading operations.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Make continuous improvement recommendations for asset capability, safety, and operability through elimination of bad actors and/or improved equipment or component selection and innovation
  • Focus on assigned priorities and develop accurate scope of work for turnaround, outages, routine maintenance, and regular improvements
  • Ensure equipment design changes align with the engineering standards, practices and management of change systems while evaluating the impact on reliability
  • Work closely with maintenance, planners, and operations on equipment reliability issues and failure trends to improve existing asset strategies
  • Assist with solving problems on motors, electrical heat trace (EHT), motor control centers (MCCs), switch-gears, relays, uninterruptible power source (UPS), variable frequency drives (VFD) 480V/4160V, and ensure that high quality targeted preventative maintenance (PM) is maintained
  • Conduct reliability analysis to predict remaining equipment service life and make recommendations for obsoleted equipment change strategy
  • Work with field technicians to provide directions on oversee equipment trouble shooting

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Five years of experience in electrical engineering, VFD and high voltage applications
  • Maintenance, reliability, and project experience in process plants or refineries
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering
  • Been registered or immediately eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

  • The ability to anticipate potential problems and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions, as well as having a strong sense of accountability
  • Strong collaboration skills that enables you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups

Preference for:

  • Strong analytical skills including analyzing SAP data, conducting root cause assessment, and drawing and presenting conclusions and recommendations

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • This position is safety sensitive
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible individuals
