As the Process Automation Intern, you will be an integral part of the team, working with some of the latest control systems in an industrial production environment. You will be given an excellent opportunity to develop process engineering, process control and project management skills.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Assist with process control maintenance, development and improvement projects
  • Analyze process control performance and investigate issues to determine appropriate solutions
  • Work closely with other teams in engineering, operations and maintenance
  • Perform mass and energy balances
  • Provide support to problem solving activities using KT
  • Analyze refinery process operations
  • Produce support for updates to the refinery planning tools
  • Build macros and programs to improve data acquisition and analysis
  • Oversee and facilitate site wide United Way initiatives by acting as central contact focal

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Current enrolment in a formal chemical engineering co-op program at an accredited post-secondary institution, and returning to full-time studies after the work term

Preference for:

  • Prior oil and gas industry experience
  • Familiarity with refining processes or continuous manufacturing processes involving pressure, temperature and flow controls is an asset
  • Advanced computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as an interest to learn and use Visual Basic and Access
  • A motivated self-starter who can work well both independently and within a team environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as good time management skills, with the ability to multi-task effectively

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Sarnia refinery in Ontario, located at 1900 St. Clair Parkway
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • This is a 16-month work term, from May 2019 to September 2020
